Schlumbohm wins wild I-90 Speedway opener

HARTFORD, SD -- Exciting was the season's first USRA B-Mod feature Saturday which saw Devon Schlumbohm pass defending track champion Tracy Johnson on the final lap to earn his first career I-90 Speedway win.

Johnson had led for 10 laps before Schlumbohm clicked off a perfect final lap.

"Any time you can race beside Tracy it's a blast," said Schlumbohm whose car once belonged to 2010 track champion Cody Ahrendt.

Johnson gained the lead from Mark DeBoer on the fifth lap when the former late model driver bowed to mechanical problems.

The fifth lap restart was highlighted by several lead changes.

Johnson passed Schlumbohm who passed Brock Hess who passed Jared Nytroe.

Nytroe had been running second to DeBoer at the time of DeBoer's caution.

Though making it cold and uncomfortable for the large number of fans that turned out on opening night, strong wind gusts helped dry the track which had been wet and muddy all week.
