Turner, Wettengel shine in Lakeside Speedway victory lane

Shadren Turner won the USRA B-Mod main event.

Shadren Turner won the USRA B-Mod main event.

Fast and furious USRA B-Mods took the track Friday at the Lakeside Speedway with heat race winners Aaron Marrant,  John Baker and Stephen Clancy all taking turns challenging for the lead.

The opening laps of the feature saw three wide in turn four for the lead with Baker high side, Shadren Turner middle and Marrant low side to the flag stand.

Turner slid through to the front with Baker settling into second with all other competitors challenging.

As Turner led, great racing action followed the leader as three wily veteran drivers fought for position. Tim Karrick, Kerry Davis and Clancy put on a show for all fans in attendance diving and dancing for the top spot.

Marrant suffered mechanical issues and headed for the pits with Turner continuing to lead. Turner took the win and parked in Nextran Victory Lane with big mover Karrick, running Turner down as the checkers were displayed.

Third place belonged to week one winner Clancy with Davis a solid fourth and the always-fast Baker rounding out the top five.

USRA Stock Cars were the last to take to the track on a chili night with heat race winners Chris Dishong, Kasey Shields and Jaylen Wettengel filling the front spots on the initial lineup.

Shields wasted no time getting out front and appeared to be the car to beat with Dishong in the battle for the lead as well. Shields maintained the front as Wettengel and Mich Ross started their charge to the front.

Wettengel’s car seemed to get faster as the feature progressed as he closed in on leader Shields. Ross used every inch of track and ounce of horsepower he could muster as he knocked on the leader’s door as well.

As the white flag was displayed, Wettengel mounted a charge and dove the car into turn four to pass Shields and pick up his first feature win at Lakeside in 2024.

Shields settled for second with Ross a close third on the night. Fourth place saw Dishong with always present and fast Rodney Schweizer rounding out the night’s top five finishers.

Lakeside Speedway would like to thank all drivers, fans and workers for another outstanding night.
