Scott holds on for El Paso Speedway Park victory

EL PASO, Texas -- With more clay making its way to the El Paso Speedway Park racing surface during the week, the USRA RHS Modifieds rolled the track in for their second-to-last appearance with Holly Jones holding a slim three-point advantage over defending track champion Stormy Scott.

The USRA RHS Modifieds lined up for 30 laps of action with Rick Ortega leading from the pole. On the move from the seventh starting spot, Scott wasted no time getting into the top 3 and taking second from Mercedes Harris. Keeping the momentum going, Scott shot into the lead before the caution waved for Christy Georges.

Back to racing with 27 laps to run, Jake O誰eil was the car to watch as the Tucson racer went after Ortega for second. Side by side, the O誰eil was not be able to get the run as Jones raced her way into the mix. Settling into fourth, she watched as O誰eil raced into second.

With 19 laps to run, the battle on the track was for fourth as Robert Adams began to make his presence known from the ninth starting position. Getting the pass on Jones, Adams hustled any line that would give him an edge on running down the battle for the lead.

Closing to a single car length as the field raced to the halfway point, O誰eil took advantage of Scott痴 tight handling, but seeing the nose of O誰eil Scott swapped lines to again pull away with the lead as the battle for second was ongoing between O誰eil and Adams.

A late race caution would put the field into a double-file restart until the caution waved again for Georges -- her second of the race and her last as she was black-flagged.

Back to green with two to go, Adams got the rubber band wound up and let it loose, shooting into second as the white flag waved. Into the final two turns, Scott crept up the track, allowing Adams to shoot low as the two drivers drag-raced to the checkered flag with Scott holding on by inches to take the win and the points lead.

Adams, O誰eil, Ortega and Jake Gallardo rounded out the top 5.

Heat wins went to Georges, Ortega and O誰eil.
