Madrid sweeps on wild night at El Paso Speedway Park

EL PASO, Texas -- The skies did not look promising around the El Paso Speedway Park as dark clouds dropped rain all around as the USRA Westrn Flyer HotMods set to headline the night's racing.
With 20 laps on the scoreboard, the field took the green with Phil Locke setting the pace to the green but it would be Paddy Rush showing the way. On the move from the start, Christy Georges and Sherman Barnett started splitting cars from the fourth row.
Leading the charge, Georges started smoking heavily out the left side of the car but did not seem to be slowing as she took over third with just over half the race to run. Still working his way through the field, Barnett was joined by Rob Madrid as both cars worked into the top 5 before the engine on Georges’ machine finished going up in smoke with nine laps to run.
Taking over second, Madrid worked on running down Rush as the field approached five laps to go. Working in slower traffic, Rush held a comfortable advantage until he found himself held up by a lapped car, allowing Madrid to close in for a battle until the caution waved with five laps to go.
As the green flag waved on the restart, it was game on as Barnett shot to the runner-up spot. Side by side with Rush, Barnet bolted into the lead with Madrid shadowing Barnett into second.
To two laps to go the fight was on for the top spot as Madrid worked all over Barnett with the fight going side by side as the white flag waved. Wheel to wheel down the back straight, Madrid had to win it or wear it as the race went into the final two turns with Madrid winning over Barnett.
Patrick Carney, Rush and Michael Gonzales rounded out the top 5.
Heat races went to Madrid and Georges, and the trophy dash win gave Madrid a clean sweep of the night's racing.
