EL PASO, Texas -- The unstoppable west Texas heat wave was not enough to keep the fans away as the USRA Western Flyer HotMods were greeted by packed grandstands to close out the month of June at the El Paso Speedway Park.

Heat races started off with Austin Adams and Rob Madrid taking the wins while the trophy dash went to Pat Carney.

The USRA Western Flyer HotMods started the night's main events with a 20 lap feature that saw Michael Gonzales take the early race lead form the front row. Three wide and on the move, Carney took over third from the ninth starting position with five laps in the book.

Into second, Carney began running down Gonzales as the next driver mounting an attack was Christy Georges. After transmission problems took Georges out of heat race action, the El Paso veteran moved into third after starting 15th with 12 laps left to run.

While Georges moved through the field, Carney stole the race lead from Gonzales with just over 10 laps to run. Pulling away with seven laps remaining, Georges took over second and began to run down Carney as the battle on the race track was for fourth between Javier Zapien Jr. and Austin Adams.

Door to door, Zapien held the advantage until the white flag waved when he found himself pit side with mechanical problems, but up front no one had what it took to run down Carney as he took the win in the division's first non-stop main event of the season.

Georges, Sherman Barnett, Adams and Alex Gonzales rounded out the top 5.

Up next at the El Paso Speedway Park will be the return of the USRA RHS Modifieds on Friday, July 1. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing getting underway at 7:45.

The El Paso Speedway Park is located 6.5 miles east of Loop 375 off Montana Ave. Turn left on KRAG and then take the first paved right to the track
