EL PASO, Texas -- Memorial Day Weekend kicked off with a bang at the El Paso Speedway Park as the Renegade Sprint Car Series rolled into town along with the USRA Western Flyer HotMods (X-Mods), Legends and Street Stocks.

The USRA Western Flyer HotMods started off the "A" Mains with Alex Gonzales taking full advantage of his front row staring position.

Up to second, Patrick Carney moved by Paddy Rush with Rob Madrid in tow.

Starting to move through the field, Christy Georges from the eleventh starting position moved into sixth as at the front of the field disaster was avoided as a slower car turned up the track in front of Carney. Hard on the brakes, Carney avoided the slower car, allowing Madrid to close in.

Recovering and running down Gonzales, Carney pulled to the back bumper of Gonzales with 10 laps in and 10 laps to run.

Into the top five, Georges battled past Austin Adams for fourth.

To the battle for the lead with seven laps to run and Carney pulled off the slide job but the caution reverted the field to the last completed lap, sending Gonzales back to the top spot.

Green flag with six laps to go and the battle was for the lead as Georges shot into the runner-up spot as Carney overshot the high line.

Stalking Gonzales, Georges flew by for the lead with three laps to go and ran away for the win.

Gonzales, Sherman Barnett, Adams and Carney fought back to round out the top five.

Week #6 of the 2011 racing season is scheduled for Friday night, June 3, and will feature the return of the USRA RHS Modifieds. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing getting underway at 7:45.

Admission is only $10. Children 11-15, military, seniors, law enforcement, and university i.d. get in for $7 and kids 10 and under are free.
