Smith tops Dylan Koyn Open Wheel Night at Creek County Speedway

KELLYVILLE, Okla. -- Open wheel fans got their money's worth at Creek County Speedway Saturday night with 70 sprints and midget cars in the pits for the Dylan Koyn Open Wheel Night.

Danny Smith of Sand Springs was the driver to beat in the USRA Champ Sprint division as he made a perfect run for a $1,000 payday in the main event.

Smith, who earned the pole position after coming from eighth to win the first heat, drove out front on the start and pulled away for the win.

Track points leader Brent Bates pulled into second with Jackie York third.

After a lap 16 restart, York challenged Bates and finally passed him for second on lap 18 after Bates bicycled in turn 2.

On a restart with two laps remaining, Mike Goodman charged into second leaving York with third and Bates fourth.

The red flag waved twice in the event. On lap six Fred Mattox flipped and his engine caught fire. The fire was quickly put out and Mattox was not hurt. Lap 18 saw Jamie Passmore go over between turns 3-4.

USRA RHS Modifieds had the night off, but will return next Saturday, May 27.
