Georges wins big at El Paso Speedway Park

EL PASO, Texas -- Week #4 of the 2011 racing season saw the USRA RHS Modifieds return to headline the nights racing action. With 25 laps on the Bud Light scoreboard, the four-wide salute to the fans brought the fans to their feet as Mercedes Harris and Royal Jones made up the night’s front row.

Getting the jump from the outside, Jones led before the caution waved when Donovan Ooley spun, collecting several cars and blocking the front straight. Ready to go back to green, Jones again took the lead on the high side. Three wide for fourth, Jake Boles ran past Christy Georges and Holly Jones. Battling back on the high line, the Holly Jones took back fourth as up front Royal Jones was absolutely walking away.

After staring 13th on the lineup, Brian Clark moved into the top five as the caution waved with 20 laps to run after Harris spun, causing Holly Jones and Georges to get hooked, parking Georges on the track as Jones was able to roll on.

To the back to the field, Georges set sail as the green flag waved. Up front, Royal Jones’ night was about to go from great to done with the engine going sour under the hood of his USRA RHS Modified. Taking over the lead, Tom Georges had to contend with Holly Jones. Grouping within sticking distance, the top five rounded out with Christy Georges with less than 10 laps to run.

Charging into fourth, Christy Georges battled with Boles and Tom Georges for third. Three wide for third and side by side for the lead as Tucson’s Brian Clark had a run on Holly Jones but the red flag waved as Boles went up in a ball of fire when the engine let go. In a strange turn of events, Donovan Ooley spun the Holly Jones around after the red had flown, almost ending the night for the race leader.

Lined up and ready to roll again, five laps shown on the scoreboard as Tom Georges bolted to the bottom of the track to battle for the lead with Christy Georges trying to take over second. Three laps to run and Holly Jones was starting to build up some breathing room over the battle for second as Clark, after falling back on the restart, rebounded to battle for third.

Into second, Christy Georges had Holly Jones in her sights as the white flag waved. Into turns 1-2 for the final time, Georges pulled the slide job to take over the lead as Jones found herself unable to battle back as the right rear tire exploded down the back-straight, allowing Georges to run away to the win.

Clark took second with Tom Georges, Chad Falco and Roger Owens rounding out the top five.
