Artherton wins USRA RHS Modified opener at Creek County Speedway
KELLYVILLE, Okla. -- The season finally got underway Saturday at Creek County Speedway and 76 cars in eight classes opened their point seasons.
The first modified race under USRA sanction saw 13 drivers sign in and Colby Artherton will go down in the record books as the first main event winner.
Matt French grabbed the early lead in the feature race with Artherton giving chase.
French looked strong throughout the contest but with four laps remaining after a restart, Artherton found away around French and took away the lead.
French fell to fourth as Chris Bales and Charles Day also moved past.
Bales had to hang on at the finish line to edge Day for second by inches.
Racing resumes next Saturday, March 19, with USRA RHS Modifieds and the new USRA Champ Sprints plus E-Sprints, Super Stocks, Factory Stocks, Mini Stocks and Front-Wheel Drives. Injected Sprints are off next weekend.
Gates open noon and racing starts 4 p.m.
