Jones, Whitwell victorious in 'Copper on Dirt' at USA Raceway
Championship night on Saturday saw R.C. Whitwell of Tucson take the checkered flag for his first 'Copper on Dirt' title at the USA Raceway.
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Holly Jones became the first USRA RHS Western Modified winner as she narrowly held off her father, Royal Jones, in the 25-lap 'Copper on Dirt' feature Friday night, marking her first USA Raceway win.
Royal was followed to the line by Phoenix racer Ricky Thornton Jr. who drove from the 12th starting spot to earn the final spot on the podium with Christy Georges finishing fourth, locking her into the Saturday night finale.

Championship night on Saturday saw R.C. Whitwell of Tucson made a late-race pass on Royal Jones and took the checkered flag for his first 'Copper on Dirt' title at the USA Raceway.
Holly Jones, who captured Friay's preliminary feature, finished second while Chad Ayers, Wisconsin veteran Ron Schreiner and Californian Logan Drake rounded out the top five finishers.
