Josh Bradley won the Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stock main event.

Precision Auto Body Night brought the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series to Rapid Speedway on Friday, and with the warmer weather a large crowd once again came out to support a car count that once again topped the century mark.

There was a first-time winner in the Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stocks as Josh Bradley held off hard-charging Levi Vander Weide at the line to go to Pizza Ranch Victory Lane.

Bradley led from the onset of the feature but was challenged early by Eric Gaul until Gaul’s tire went down and eliminated him from contention. The new challenger was Vander Weide who did everything he could to find his way by.

With two laps to go, Bradley bobbled slightly and opened the door for Vander Weide to stick his nose in there and they battled door to door all the way to the finish with Bradley holding the edge for the win.

Behind them was Tyler Schlumbohm followed by Tracey Halouska and Gaul battling back to the top five.

The USRA B-Mods had a rough start to the race as multiple cars tangled in the first turn and Ryan Walker went up and over to bring out the red flag. When they went back to green it was once again in the first lap, but this time in turn three where multiple cars collided, bringing out another red to clear the track.

Finally on attempt three, things got going and Tracy Johnson jumped out to a 1.3-second lead but a caution on lap five erased it. Anthony Roth grabbed the lead on the restart and looked to be the car to beat with a large lead, but was disqualified for his crew giving him hand signals from the infield which is illegal in USRA rules.

Cole Suckow, who made the trek from Cresco, assumed the race lead and went on to win his first feature at the Rapid Speedway.

The final race of the night brought the most excitement—and some controversy as well—in the Medieval USRA Stock Cars. First off, defending champion Darrin Korthals gave up the pole to accept the Sponsors Backrow Challenge and start 20th.

From there Chad Lonneman took off from the front row as the early race leader with a pack of cars chasing him.  He opened a big lead but that went away when a wild wreck in the back-stretch involving multiple saw Spencer Kalass go for a wild ride, bringing out the red flag.

After that the battle for the lead picked up as Dustin Gulbrandson was right behind Lonneman and the two put on a show for the packed stands. Lonneman held tight to the lead, and in the closing laps Gulbrandson started to make his move. Digging deep to the inside he took the lead away on lap 16 but Lonneman fought back and regained the lead.

They were side by side at the white flag and one more lap around saw close, tight racing. At the line with the crowd on their feet it was Lonneman snagging the finish by just three-one-hundredths of a second over Gulbrandson.

Unfortunately Lonneman failed post-race tech and the win was awarded to Gulbrandson. Two-time winner Chad Overgaard was second ahead of Rich Gregoire, Matt Lange and Darrin Korthals, who charged from 19th to fifth.

Next Friday, May 28, the Rapid Speedway opens up the Memorial Day Weekend for the USMTS Modifieds with a $10,000-to-win show.
