With his home track hosting the Summit USRA Nationals later in the month, Ty Griffith of Webster City, Iowa, checked out Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minn., during Fareway Night on Saturday. Griffith, who sits atop the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod standings at the Hamilton County Speedway, put on a show by riding the high side to victory.

Griffith came from the fourth starting position and passed Dave Kennedy and Trevor Tesch before taking down Justin Voeltz for the lead and the win in the main event. Tesch started and finished second while Kennedy continued an impressive month at NCS by taking third.

Nick Peters remains 31 points ahead of Darin Veen and 33 points ahead of Justin Voeltz in the standings with Season Championships just a week away. Interestingly, none of the three drivers have a feature win at NCS in 2019.

Jim Larson held off Justin Luinenburg to win his second American Racer USRA Stock Car feature. Larson started on the pole alongside Jeff Larson. However, it was the Hobby Stock ace Luinenburg that gave Larson fits over the last half of the event.

Luinenburg, behind the wheel of Trent Schroeder’s No. 31 car, was anywhere from one to three car-lengths behind Larson after moving up from eighth. Larson stood tall and hit his marks, never budging to Luinenburg’s challenge. Jason Fisher also continued to show his talent for Stock Car racing after moving from the Modifieds this season. Fisher raced from seventh to third.

In the points, Darrin Korthals has an 89-point lead over defending champion Luke Sathoff.

Dan Strandberg drove away from the Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stock field after a couple of early cautions. Strandberg came from fourth to grab the lead from Tyler Pospisil. He never looked back in earning his second win of the season. Pospisil finished ahead of the race’s hard charger Levi Vander Weide of Sioux Falls, S.D. Vander Weide raced from ninth to third.

With his win, Strandberg increased his points lead over fellow Worthington driver Corey Gronewold. They’re now separated by 41 points.

Just four cars were entered for competition in the USRA Tuner division. Pole sitter Scott Espey beat Josh Stanley to the finish for his fourth win. Espey is positioned well for a third straight track title as Gary Grabill is 70 points back.

Nobles Notes: Fareway and First State Bank Southwest were sponsors of the NCS Junior Fan Club and Kids’ Night on Saturday. Thank you to the drivers who gave rides in their cars at intermission... Marthaler Automotive presents Championship Night this Saturday, Sept. 7.
