Jackson breaks Midway Speedway drought

Lebanon's Kris Jackson has been racking up wins all around the area, but hasn't been in the Lebanon Midway Speedway winners circle for a month or so. That streak ended Friday night as Jackson moved into the lead after leaders Sam Petty and Tyler Knudtson made contact, sending both to the back on lap 3.

From there, Jackson had it on cruise control in capturing the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature presented by S&S U-Pull-It Auto Parts leaving the battle for second and beyond tight and action-filled.

With a heads-up start from the qualifying heats, Knudtson and Petty brought the pack to the green flag with Petty getting the early advantage as Knudtson was close behind with Jackson, Mitchell Franklin and Brian Schutt in tow while last week's winner, Dillion McCowan, was trying to pick his way from the 11th starting spot.

Petty and Knudtson were putting on a great battle on the quick and smooth surface. While leading Petty got loose out of turn 4 and Knudtson attempted to swing out but made contact as the caution waved. The restart placed Jackson as the new leader with Franklin glued to his bumper while picking the inside lane on the restart as Schutt was making his first start and showing he still knew the fast way around the track.

Jackson got a strong restart as Franklin was keeping pace with the USRA national points leader as Schutt and McCowan diced for the third spot while Knudtson and Petty were charging back up through the field while the top 5, including Kelly Hicks, had pulled away.

A lap-10 caution for Wesley Briggs bunched the pack together as Jackson was trying to shake Franklin as the hot spot was now for third place with Schutt, McCowan, Knudtson and Petty going back and forth.

A lap-13 caution bunched the pack for a two-lap shootout as Franklin had a last shot at the win as Jackson fired strong on the restart to take the win with a wild last-lap action shuffling the rundown as Franklin held a strong second-place spot followed by Petty, McCowan and Knudtson.

Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action continues next Friday featuring the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods with Season Championships for the Spring/Summer Series as the Lebanon Midway Speedway is getting ready for the TJR Factory 56 Missouri Nationals, Sept. 5-7, with $5,600 going to the winner and $560 to start.
