The nearly all-veteran class of American Racer USRA Stock Car drivers were competitive as always Saturday night at the Nobles County Speedway.

Darrin Korthals of Rock Rapids, Iowa, held off challenges from Roger Verdoorn, Chad Lonneman, Luke Sathoff and Rich Gregoire. Sathoff and Gregoire took second and third while Korthals scored his second win of the season.

Korthals and Sathoff share the lead atop the standings with 386 points each.

Bob Gilliland appeared to have won the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature, but a post-race inspection resulted in a disqualification for an illegal concept motor, handing the win to Kole Nordquist of Beresford, S.D. Nordquist started sixth in the race.

Leading the points before Saturday, Nordquist now enjoys a 21-point lead over Devon Schlumbohm, who was awarded second after Gilliland’s disqualification. Cole Christensen came from ninth to third.

Former track champion and 2011 USRA national champion Dan Strandberg took advantage of his front row starting position as he won the Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stock main event. Earlier in the evening, Standberg’s son Jaeden cruised to victory in the Sybesma Graphics Sportsman feature.

Fellow Worthington racer Corey Gronewold’s car was strong at the end of the race. He grabbed second. Nick Schilling came from sixth to third early in the race but was unable to make any additional gains after that.

Strandberg and Gronewold top the standings while they are separated by 18 points.

A disqualification also re-wrote the results of the USRA Tuner feature. After a shot of water, the Tuners skated around the 3/8-mile track.

Dan Jenson and Scott Espey figured out how to feather their cars around the track with Jensen finishing just ahead of Espey. However, Espey was handed the win after Jensen’s car was found to have an altered right rear suspension.

The win was Espey’s second. His closest competitor in the points is Gary Grabill (-31).
