Lance Hofer: 2018 Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series USRA Late Model National Champion

For a second straight year, a Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national champion was crowned in the USRA Late Model division. And for a second straight year the honor goes to Lance Hofer of Cochrane, Wis.

While nailing a second straight track championship at Bob Timm’s Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis., Hofer was a perfect nine for nine in main events at the picturesque facility and recorded 12 wins overall in his 18 starts.

Matt McEathron of Wausau, Wis., was the runner-up in the class. With 21 starts, he never missed a USRA-sanctioned Late Model race in 2018.

Derek Nelson of Cochrane, Wis., wound up third, Justin Sass of Alma, Wis., ended up in the fourth spot and five-time feature winner Dan Gullikson of Roberts, Wis., rounded out the top five while also securing the track championship at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis.

Shaun Mann, Troy Langowski, Barry Johnson, Kyle Johnson and Cedar Lake Speedway track champ Larry Fitzsimmons complete the top 10.

In addition to national and track points funds, Hofer will also receive contingency awards from American Racer Racing Tires, Argo Manufacturing, CP-Carrillo, MSD Performance, Summit Racing Equipment, Edelbrock, Keyser Manufacturing, RacerWebsite.com and Wilwood Disc Brakes.

The United States Racing Association will host its annual awards banquet on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, and this year’s party will once again be a joint effort for both the USRA and United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS). A record crowd of nearly 300 people attended last year’s gathering. Fans and members of the media are invited to attend too.
