Jackson grabs twelfth win, Petty earns first lebanon Midway Speedway title

Current Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series Out-Pace USRA B-Mod nationals points leader Kris Jackson of Lebanon made a daring three-wide pass at the halfway point to take the top spot from leader Tyler Knudtson to claim his 12th feature win Friday night at the Lebanon Midway Speedway while hard-charging Sam Petty grabbed his first track championship as the Friday Night Spring/Summer Series concluded on the racy 1/3-mile dirt oval.

Jackson, who started seventh on the grid, played a patient game early and picked his spots in the tough field ahead of him in his Ruble Engines/Rage Chassis/Vans Auto Sales/Red Headed Rebel Brew No. 65 as polesitter Knudtson grabbed the opening spot from Dillion McCowan as defending champion Tyler Brown stayed tucked right behind the Lebanon young charger.

Last week;s winner, Petty had to start 11th on the field and was trying to make his way to the front. By lap 4, Jackson had worked his way to the top 4 with the leaders in his sight. An early caution waved as contact with Petty and Ricky Watkins saw Petty get loose and slow off turn 2 forcing him to restart in the rear again as Knudtson had his hands full of Tyler Brown.

Knudtson, in the Southside Salvage/Knudtson's Garage/ No. 8K with a Ruble Motor under the hood had Brown in his McDaniel Racing/Premier No. T10 looking for a chance to overtake the leader. On the sixth lap, Jackson made the low groove move around Brown and set his sight's on Knudtson. The following lap, Jackson set to the high groove as Brown shot low looking the the lead while Jackson swung outside to make the three-wide pass for the top spot and started to pull away as McCowan, Donnie Jackson and Bobby Williams were in a mix for positions.

With Kris Jackson in front, the race for secvond was extremely tight, especially on lap 10 when Knudtson swung outside and got alittle loose in turn 4 as Brown made the most of the move as the duo tapped and Brown moved into second place.

A late restart with three laps to go bunched the field together as Williams moved around McCowan with Petty in tow as early front-runner Donnie Jackson started sliding backwards in the pack. As Kris Jackson took the checkered, Brown locked into the runner-up spot with Knudtson, Williams and Petty completing the top 5.

"The track has really been racy and in great shape all year," said Kris Jackson. "This is only ten to fifteen minutes from the house and makes it fun for our family to come and race.

"They have a rule if you win one week, next time you're in row 6. Tonight I drew a tough heat race as Brown, Knudtson, Donnie and Sam all were together. The track does a row redraw and my finish placed me in the fourth row just outside a redraw chance. The quality of cars here weekly makes it tight and fun to race and with the USRA sanction, it really gives us something to race for. More guys need to be looking to compete here."

For Petty, it was the most consistant year of racing. There are three brothers who compete in different classes and he was looking for that consistency. Last season during the Fall Series, he came-up short of the title to Tyler Brown. With a new powerplant and chassis combo and John West Logging sponsoring the team, Petty said he has found that groove. Mac's Performance of Springfield does his motors and it is a Larry Shaw Rce Cars chassis.

"To run as close as we have with Kris this season is great," Petty said. "Our team goal this season was to finish in the top 15 nationally and put ourself in a spot for a track title.

Petty entered the evening ranked seventh nationally—just 100 points behind Mike Striegel of Wheatlnd.

"Now we can get rid of some early season bad finishes and hopefully move forward."

Qualifying heats went to Donnie Jackson and Ricky Watkins.

Lebanon Midway Speedway will be back in action with the 2nd Annual Bud Perry Memorial featuring Out-Pace USRA B-Mods plus Cash Money Super Late Models, Midwest Mods, Hornets, Pure Stocks and the St. Louis Vintage Racing Association.
