Next generation of race fans take spotlight Friday at Lakeside Speedway


This Friday, Aug. 3, at Lakeside Speedway marks the annual Kids Night featuring USRA Modifieds, Holley USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods competing in the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series plus Grand nationals, Factory Stocks, E-Mods and Mod-Lites.

As part of the fun night, Lakeside Speedway will give away backpacks to the first 100 kids ages 7 to 12 and 50 backpacks to the 6 and under age group. Kids will participate in activities such as fun rides around the track in buses, chances to win bikes and intermission-time races on the track for boys and girls.

In the chase for the weekly championship points, Brad Smith has the lead by a single point over Tim Powell with Luke Nieman in third in the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods. Kevin Anderson has a nearly insurmountable lead over Brett Heeter and David Oxford in the Holley USRA Stock Cars. Mark Schafman shows no signs of letting up in USRA Modifieds and commands the lead over Kerry Davis and Tim Karrick heading into this weekend.

Drivers are reminded that they must compete in 75 percent of the Lakeside Speedway season events to be eligible for the end-of-season championship points fund.

Friday also marks the fourth week of the Rick Beebe Heating & Air Smokin’ Hot Summer Series presented by Prime Racing Products. Drivers in the USRA Modified, Out-Pace USRA B-Mod and Holley URA Stock Car divisions will again compete throughout the night with extra contingencies and mini-series points on the line between Lakeside Speedway on Friday and I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo., on Saturday.

Due to the summer heat Lakeside Speedway will continue with the 30-minute later start times through Sept. 7. This Friday, pit gates opens at 5 p.m., spectator gates open at 5:30, the drivers meeting at 7:15, hot laps at 7:30 and racing at 8.

General admission is $12, seniors 62 and over and members of the military are $10 and all kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Pit passes are $30, kids pit passes are $10 (ages 6 and under). Suites are available for $20 with kids ages 2-12 just $10.
