Track points leader Petty fends off national points leader Jackson at Lebanon Midway Speedway

Lebanon Midway Speedway Out-Pace USRA B-Mod points leader Sam Petty fended back a charge from Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points leader Kris Jackson in the final two laps Friday night in taking his third win of the season in an action-packed 20-lap feature.

Defending track champion Tyler Brown and Tyler Knudtson brought the 16-car field to the green with Brown grabbing the opening lead while Petty, who started third, followed closely behind with Knudtson and Rex Harris on his tail as Jackson was starting in the 11th position.

A quick yellow flew as fifth place in points, Rich Reynolds, had a wheel issue slowing him in turn 4 and ending his night. Brown was keeping Petty and Knudtson at bay as Donnie Jackson began to move forward from his ninth starting spot, but all eyes were on Kris Jackson as he was slicing through the field.

On lap 5, the caution waved as Kris Jackson spun in turn 3 on the top side while making a three-wide pass for position, sending him to the rear of the long line.

On the restart, Brown had his hands full as Petty pulled even with the leader while Knudtson and Donnie Jackson raced hard for the third spot with a tight battle between Dillion McCowan, Kelly Hicks and Bobby Williams for fifth.

On the ninth lap, Petty made a strong move on Brown and took the top spot as Kris Jackson was picking off cars every lap.

A lap-11 caution bunched the field as Petty brought the field down on the double-file restart as Donnie Jackson made a move around Knudtson for third while Kris Jackson cracked the top 5. Kris Jackson moved into third on lap 13 as Petty maintained a four-car-length advantage over Brown while Kris Jackson and Brown wagged a classic battle for second/.

On circuit 18, Kris Jackson finally cleared Brown for the runner-up spot and set his sights on Petty. The final two laps kept everybody waiting as Petty kept the car smooth to hold back Kris Jackson with the win as Kris Jackson, Tyler Brown, Donnie Jackson and McCowan completed the top 5.

Thirteen of the 16 feature starters completed the lead lap.

For Petty, it inched him closer to the track championship sponsored by S&S U-Pull-It Auto Parts of Lebanon. For Jackson, another good national points night in the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods. He came into the night with 15 feature wins out of 28 starts, including 26 top-5 finishes. With the car count, starting position and finishing spot, Friday's effort should help gain a few more markers.

Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action continues nexct Friday, Aug. 3, as the Lebanon Midway Speedway will close out the Spring/Summer Series before returning to action on Saturday nights starting Sept. 8 with the 2nd Annual Bud Perry Memorial.

For Out-Pace USRA B-Mod drivers, the Fall Series starting in September will award national points each race night.
