Dycus makes it a three-peat at Route 66 Motor Speedway

To put it short, Triston Dycus has been hot. White scorching hot.

The Waxahatchie, Texas, star made it three wins in a row in the Touring Outlaws Modified Series with a wire-to-wire win at the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo on Saturday night.

All three of his wins have been uncontested. He has led the last 75 laps of the TOMS feature races at three different tracks: Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.,, West Texas Raceway in Lubbock and now Amarillo.

Even before the race began his fellow drivers at intermission challenged Dycus with extra money if he started eighth and won instead of the outside front row he drew.

Troy Taylor offered an extra $100 as did Bo Day and C.A. Nix, and soon fans were offering to chip in as well.

The total reached $900 before Dycus stepped up to the microphone to tell everyone "Thanks, but you all have overrated me."

Still, that was the ultimate show of respect in both directions.

Logan Robertson of Shamrock gave it his best but had to settle for second while Nix of Lawton, Okla., came in third. Braden Woods of Amarillo was fourth while Taylor of Midlothian was fifth.

The first heat race was won by Nix with A.J. Vasquez of Amarillo second and Dycus third. Heat #2 was claimed by Taylor with Travis Johnson of Piedmont, Okla., second and Charlie Smith of Forney third. Heat #3 went to Woods with second going to Mike Stroud of Fritsch and third to A.J. Sharpensteen of Amarillo.

It was a bad night for Kale Westover of Blair, Okla., but his racing brothers came to his rescue.

Westover crashed in his heat race, breaking his radius and pull bars but up stepped Taylor, Dycus, Smith and Nix to get the right parts so he could get back in the feature race.

This is what the TOMS gang does. They are enemies on the track but one big family off of it.

The next stop is Saturday, July 28, at the Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, for the Hella Shrine Classic which benefits needy youngsters. Then on Saturday, Aug. 4, it is back to the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla.
