Holzkamper, Owen score Saturday night wins at Tri-State Speedway

Memorial Day Weekend racing at the mighty Tri-State Speedway saw Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series points racing in all classes on Saturday night. Mid-90-degree temperatures greeted the fans and, as what has become the norm under new track owners, the track was ready to race at the advertised hot lap time and produced a four-wide and fast track for the drivers and fans.

The pre-race ceremonies started just before 8 p.m. The invocation was followed by the National Anthem as cars presented the nation’s flag around the speedway.

Heat races were determined by draw at sign-in. The classes advanced to their features heads up with an invert redraw.

At intermission, 50/50 money was given away. Everyone had a chance to grab themselves some food items from the newly reconfigured concession along with an ice-cold Pepsi product. They also grabbed TSS T-shirts and Tornado Relief Concert shirts from the T-shirt booth.

The second race on the track after intermission was the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature where J.R. Owen of Pocola crossed the finish line first ahead of Brandon Wilson of Fort Smith, Ark., and Hulbert's Dustin Boston. Dean Green of Siloam Springs, Ark., holds on to the points lead with 434 points.

The USRA Modifieds took to the high banks last for their fFeature. Steve Holzkamper of Gentry, Ark., road the outside lane off the turns and crossed the finish line first. Kyle Ledford of Greenwood, Ark., took home second place and Brent Holman of Rogers, Ark., was third, extending his points lead to 31 going into next Saturday night.

The next event for Tri-State Speedway will be on June 2 as the ASCS Sprint Cars return to the famous high banks with point racing in all regular classes too. Topless Out-Pace USRA B-Mod action is coming soon, too. More information on all events can be found at www.tri-statespeedway.com and our social media channels.
