Poor weather forecast forces postponement of Lucas Oil Speedway season opener

The first green flag of the 2018 season at Lucas Oil Speedway will have to wait another week.

With rain and snow in the forecast for Friday and sub-freezing temperatures predicted for Saturday night, the season-opening Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series program scheduled for this weekend has been postponed.

"We really hate calling off any event, but unfortunately we really don't see any choice," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said. "The high Saturday is forecast to be 36 with a low of 22. Mother Nature is just not ready to go yet.

"There's no point of waiting around and holding everyone up. This way, we'll give everyone one more week to prepare, hope for better weather and kick things off in a big way with the 5th annual MLRA Spring Nationals."

The two-night MLRA Spring Nationals Presented by RacingJunk.com is set for April 13-14. Joining the Late Models on the program both nights will be the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds and Big O Tires Street Stocks with full shows both nights.

The first full Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series program is now set for April 21. The Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods will be featured, running a 25-lap, $750-to-win feature. The Pitts Homes USRA modifieds, Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models and Big O Tires Street Stocks also will be on the schedule.

Defending champions in the four weekly divisions are Johnny Fennewald of Appleton City (ULMA Late Models), Bolivar's Jeff Cutshaw (Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds), Andy Bryant of Fort Scott, Kansas (Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods) and Toby Ott of Wheatland (Big O Tires Street Stocks).
