The third points race of the season at the legendary Tri-State Speedway was a remarkable difference in weather conditions at the famous high banks in Pocola, Okla., from what we’ve been facing the last several weeks. With temps in the low 80s, the track prep crew was able to perform a little magic in order to get the track into a raceable condition for the fans and drivers, despite the previous two weeks of rain.

The pre-race ceremonies of the invocation, along with a memorial reading honoring the late Danny Martinez, Jr., and the National Anthem, for the evening started at 8 p.m. During the National Anthem, police vehicles from several local agencies and the track ambulance, along with drivers wishing to show their support and respect, made a few memorial laps, to a standing ovation, in honor of the fallen Fort Smith Police Department officer and fellow racer who was tragically killed in the line of duty, just over 10 years ago.

The first race on the track after intermission was the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods for their feature that saw Stephen Muilenburg of Sparta, Mo., break the winning streak for Hunter Byers of Rogers, Ark., who crossed the line in second ahead of Chad Summerford of Centerton, Ark.

The USRA Modified feature was the last on the track next and saw Brandon Hunter of Alma, Ark., take home his first first-place finish of the year over a charging Jeremy Vaughn of Pocola and the previous week’s winner, Trevor Latham of Rogers, Ark.

Our next event will be another night of edge-of-your-seat, heart-pounding excitement point racing scheduled for May 13 with a full night of point racing plus the first $1,500-to-win 100-lap Enduro at the end of the night. Don’t forget the new starting time of 8 p.m. with both pit gates and grandstand gates opening at 5. Driver’s meeting is at 7 p.m. and hot laps are scheduled for 7:30.
