Central Missouri Speedway car show, practice laps roll out this Saturday

In less than two weeks, owners and promoters Earl and Susan Walls usher in their twenty-second year of operating CMS. USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Pure Stocks return to the racing program along with Out-Pace USRA B-Mods now competing under the USRA sanctioning banner. Mod Lites will add a new chapter of excitement to Saturday nights as they make their CMS weekly racing debut in 2017.

However, before the first official race of the season, drivers have a chance to show off their new looks this Saturday and then later in the afternoon, a chance to test and tune their cars for the one and only practice session scheduled for the pre-season.

The fifth-annual CMS Car Show kicks off the day’s activities at 11 a.m. on the grounds of Hawthorne Plaza Shopping Center located at 1125 N Simpson Drive in Warrensburg, Missouri (located behind Wal-Mart). For the second year in a row, RE/MAX United will present the ‘Best Appearing Race Car’ plaques as voted on by car show attendees.

Car Show attendees may take photos with drivers and have the rare opportunity to cars up close. Fans may also pick up a track schedule for the coming season and have a shot at some DQ Grill and Chill coupons along with visiting with the DQ Grill and Chill mascot throughout the car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drivers displaying their cars at the event will receive one free pit pass valid for practice night later in the day.

Once the car show finishes at 3 p.m., drivers in all car classes are invited to turn practice laps from 4 to 8 p.m. at the speedway. Pit gates open at 3:30 with practice beginning at 4 and lasting until approximately 8 p.m. Fans may attend the practice session for free in the pit-side grandstands. The front side will not be open. All pit passes are $20 for the practice session for those entering the pit area. The practice event also allows the CMS staff to test and tune all that it takes to put on a weekly race program each Saturday.

Earl Walls celebrates his 80th birthday this week and in celebration of his youthful exuberance, Walls informed his staff that senior citizens wishing to enter the pit area on race nights when he is working his perch in turn four this year will enjoy free admission into the pits. Walls, said, “When I turned 70, we let all seventy-year-olds and older in the grandstands for free, I thought that was fun, this should be fun too.”

The regular race season begins Saturday, April 15th. Onlookers will notice construction continues at the CMS Party Barn area, where the Walls have plans to expand the historic building’s entertainment potential with additional plans unfolding later in the year.
