Central Missouri Speedway cut short due to pesky rain showers

WARRENSBURG, Mo.—Pepsi and L.J.S. Graphics Night produced some top-notch competition during heat race action but unfortunately after only one main event concluded after rains arrived, Mother Nature foiled what was sure to be an otherwise fantastic night of racing on a beautifully prepared track for the drivers and fans in the stands.

A strong field of 27 USRA Modifieds took to the track for competition in four heat races with last week’s feature winner Gunner Martin picking up where he left off by claiming heat number one ahead of Jim Moody and Ronnie Woods.

Kevin Blackburn kept his strong finishes going with the win over Brian Johnson and Dean Wille in heat two.

Ryan Middaugh made his first CMS appearance of the year pay off with the win for heat three over Terry Schultz and Chad Lyle while Tim Karrick of Basehor, Kan., claimed the final heat ahead of Steve Twenter and Dean Bachner.

With sprinkles falling as early as the USRA Modified heats, the pesky and persistent moisture continued and the event was canceled following the Pure Stock main event.

Once make-up events are confirmed for all classes, CMS will announce all of the dates well in advance of each of the make-up events for the USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and the B-Mods. Stay tuned to CMS press releases and the website and social media for future announcements.

USRA Modified drivers should take note of the special bonuses offered by promoters Earl and Susan Walls for the big three summer holiday special events. For any driver who wins the Memorial Day $3,000-to-win race and then also wins the Tom Wilson Memorial over Independence Day weekend, and then goes on to win the $3,000-to-win race later in the year over Labor Day weekend, they will earn a $5,000 bonus for the clean sweep! If you add the base purse “to win” money for the three events together it totals $11,000, now add on another $7,500 in bonus money and that totals a whopping possible $18,500 going to a driver who sweeps all three events. However, there’s still a $2,500 bonus for any driver that doubles up and wins any two of the three big-money events this summer.
