USMTS, USRA announce revised suspension rules for 2016

ARDMORE, Okla.—Officials from the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) and United States Racing Association (USRA) issued a joint announcement on Saturday, March 5, regarding the 2016 suspension rules for Modifieds competing in both organizations.

“Effective immediately, amendments to Article 8 of the USMTS and USRA rulebooks affecting shocks, springs and other suspension issues will be in enforced going forward,” said Todd Staley, who presides over both organizations. “While we encourage innovation and creativity, there are some things that simply cannot be allowed to creep into dirt modified racing.

“USMTS and USRA competitors are among the sport’s smartest and most ingenious, and many racing in this division look to these drivers to discover and implement the latest advances in making them faster. We’re hopeful that other series and sanctioning bodies will follow suit and help maintain the spirit of the dirt modified.”

In 2007, the USMTS and USRA were the first rules-governing bodies to allow quick change rear ends as an option for Modified racers. The cost and safety benefits have since been embraced by virtually all similar divisions around the country.

The USMTS also led the charge to eliminate the practice of altered (raised) frame rails before it became an epidemic in 2010.

The USMTS rulebook can be found online at www.usmts.com/downloads. The USRA rulebook is available at www.usraracing.com/rules.
