WARRENSBURG, Mo.—Central Missouri Speedway is ready to host drivers and fans for two straight nights of racing on Friday and Saturday, July 3-4, during what has become a mid-summer tradition at the track and for race enthusiasts in the greater Kansas City metro and beyond.

The 10th Annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl dots the schedules of both drivers and fans each year during the Independence Day weekend. Tom Wilson, who served as the track’s long-time announcer and PR director at the speedway died unexpectedly over a decade ago and this event was named in his honor. He and CMS promoter Earl Walls diligently worked together to improve weekly and special-event pay for Modified competitors dating as far back as the late 1990s.

Past BBQ Bowl winners include Justin Boney (1998), Chad Lyle (1999-2001), Richard Layne (2002), Tim Karrick (2003), Jason Hughes (2004, 2006), Dean Wille (2005), Kelly Shryock (2007, 2011), Jeremy Payne (2008), Terry Phillips (2009), Dustin Boney (2010) and Zack VanderBeek (2014). The track was not in operation in 2012 and 2013.

The weekend features “big-money” races for USRA Modifieds and Street Stocks highlighted by the Saturday night finale for the USRA Modifieds, which boasts a whopping $32,000 purse structure for the $5,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start 24-car main event.

Six USRA Modified drivers will find themselves locked into the 50-lap finale for Saturday night after they compete in two separate heat races on Friday. The top six in combined passing points from the two heat races earn Saturday starting positions 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 on the grid. Drivers not making the top six in passing points will compete in additional preliminary event(s) with the top 6 from the B-main ultimately claiming Saturday start positions 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, and 23 to complete the inside row. The USRA Modified program works exactly the same for night two on Saturday, July 4th and will be capped off by the 50-lap featured race.

Friday racing also includes USRA B-Mods featuring extra start money (both nights), the Allstar Midget Series, and for the first time in several years, the Triple Crown Shootout presented by RacinDirt.com for the ULMA Late Models. At the conclusion of racing Friday night, everyone is invited to kick back and sing the night away with Char karaoke in the tech barn. Attendees are advised to bring their own chairs, snacks, and beverages. We’ll be passing the hat to keep the party going until everyone is all sung out!

Saturday racing includes night two outside row qualifying for the USRA Modifieds as drivers compete in preliminary events to eventually determine starting positions 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12. Once again the top six in passing points after the two heats will be locked in while positions 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24 will be settled out through a B-main event. USRA B-mods return for a second straight night of action along with Pure Stocks. The Street Stocks have also been invited back to compete on Saturday evening giving the fans four car classes to enjoy throughout the night. After the checkered flag for the 50-lap event flies Saturday night and the winner is crowned, there will be a full-on fireworks extravaganza for everyone to enjoy.

There are no track registration fees for any car classes this weekend! USRA Modified and Street Stock drivers are subject to an entry fee. All pit passes are $35 and are separate from entry fees. Complete details regarding the entire race weekend may be found on the track’s website at www.centralmissourispeedway.net. Look for the tab titled “10th Annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl Information Station” and you will find all you need to know about this weekend’s activities through this tab. Visiting drivers are highly encouraged to visit the track’s website and read the general race rules book. At CMS, we use the rulebook, enforce it, and run a very swift-moving program. Look under the Drivers tab on the website for complete rules information.

Camping is permitted on CMS grounds but there are no amenities. All overnight guests are responsible for cleaning their respective areas. There is plenty of parking on both sides of the speedway, there is grandstand seating on both the front and “pit” side of the speedway. No coolers are allowed, there is a fully stocked concession stand on both sides of the speedway to serve the fans and drivers.

If inclement weather affects the weekend, here is the plan we have laid out:

Rain Out Scenario #1: If the Friday, July 3 night one program rains out, that program becomes the night one program on Saturday, July 4, same exact program specifics as originally planned Friday. The Saturday program then becomes the Sunday, July 5 night two program.
Rain Out Scenario #2: If the Friday, July 3 night one program is completed but the Saturday, July 4 night two program is rained out, the Saturday, night two July 4 program will move and become the night two Sunday, July 5 program.
Rain Out Scenario #3: If the Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 dates both rain out, CMS will determine the makeup information and make future announcements. Bottom line, if we get Friday in, we will do our best (weather pending) to finish by Sunday night.
