Chambers powers to USRA Modified victory at Humboldt Speedway

HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- Victory has been elusive in 2014 for Jeremy Chambers. After a dominating year last year in USRA B-Mods, the veteran driver made the quantum leap to the USRA Modified camp this year, and has been moderately successful, tagging a couple of runner-ups. Still, nothing satisfies like a win.

Satisfaction came to Chambers this week; an excellent heat race netted an outside pole starting position, from which point Chambers took the lead and never looked back. Travis Smith and Tanner Mullens went head to head behind the leader, and were a threat to take the lead at any point, making for an exciting finish, one where Chambers pulled away from the duo for the win. Mullens captured second, Smith was third, Josh Everhart fourth, and Jim Body fifth.

Jeremy Wilson made it three in a row in the USRA Stock Car division, this time with Tyler James in second, and David Matlock third. Ken Colston finished behind the power trio in fourth.

Defending USRA B-Mod champion Jimmie Davis added another trophy to his went to newcomer Aaron Scroggins collection Friday night, despite pressure from runner up Andy Bryant. Newcomer Aaron Scroggins of Neosho, Mo. claimed third, Mike Letterman and Dakota Foster rounded out the top five.

May 23rd marked the annual “Kids Night at The Hummer”, where the next generation of racers begin to hone their skills by racing bicycles on the high banks. Three age groups compete: The six and under division, where Dominick Smith, Brock Michaels, and Jenna Westhoff were victorious, the seven to nine division, where Briggs Michael, Tucker Davis and Aiden Johnson were the stars, and the 10 to 12 “Senior Division”, lead by Trenton Wilson, Jarred Willard, and Carson Letterman.

Recognizing that we are watching tomorrows future competitors, seven different drivers and or their sponsors generously rewarded seven different kids with brand new bicycles by means of random drawings. Special thanks go to Dennison Welding Supplies, Jimmie and Patty Davis of J&J Tires, Whitworth Construction, Lori Davis and the team at Cut N Corners Hair Salon, Speedway chief technical inspector Carl Flower, B-Mod driver Tim VanGotten, and 2012 Modified point champion John Allen of Allen Motorsports. Thanks to these folks for providing a thrill for our youngest fans!
