ALTA, Iowa—Chris Ullrich and Doug Smith took home the hardware Thursday night as the USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods invaded the Buena Vista Raceway for the Iron Man Challenge.

Ullrich started 18th in the USRA Stock Car feature but quickly made his way to the front.

After picking off 12 cars in the first two laps, he caught and passed early leader Stefan Sybesma for the lead with just six laps in the books.

From there, Ullrich led the final 12 laps to grab the win and $750 top prize.

Defending Iron Man Challenge champion Mitch Hovden was second, 2012 champ Tom Schmitt finished third, Shay Curtin took fourth, polesitter Kevin Donlan was fifth and Sybesma held on for sixth at the finish line.

In the USRA B-Mod main event, Lake City, Iowa’s Doug Smith led all 15 laps for his career-first Iron Man checkers and a $600 payday.

Last year’s Iron Man champion, Cory Crapser, settled for the runner-up spot, Logan Scott took third, Dan Wheeler finished fourth and Clay Evans rounded out the top five.

Both divisions will back in action on Saturday at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., before wrapping up the Memorial Day Weekend tripleheader on Sunday at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa.
