WINSTON, Mo. -- Zach Sanders, Thomas Roberts, Chad Clancy and Billie Hoover captured feature wins in USRA Weekly Racing Series action Saturday night at the I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo.

The USRA Hobby Stocks witnessed three-wide racing action. Gary Ainsworth jumped out to an early lead and fended off Mich Ross as they raced side by side for most of the feature.

While these two were busy racing each other, Billie Hoover used the extreme high side and passed both drivers in turn 4 on his way to earing the night’s top spot. Ross maintained his consistency but had nothing for Hoover in the late laps to finish second.

Heat winner Tim Dawson—a newcomer to I-35 Speedway—flexed his muscle with a solid third-place finish. Ainsworth showed continuing improvement but faded late to place fourth while another newcomer to our Hobby Stock class, Tim Pettibone, came home fifth.

In a caution-plagued feature that was shortened due to time constraints, Chad Clancy picked up his second victory in the USRA B-Mod class at I-35 Speedway this young 2014 racing season. In a tale of two worlds, it was almost as different as night and day between those in the top 10 and those on the outside. It seemed as if the back half of the field was running a different feature event to bring out continued cautions.

When the smoke had finally settled and green flag racing prevailed, up front action was fast and furious. Clancy used the breaks he needed as Gene Claxton and Randy Ainsworth battled side by side for nearly every lap with Doug Keller waiting for one chance to advance.

When the checkers were shown, Claxton was second, Ainsworth third and Keller a solid fourth. “Mr. Excitement” Jim Cameron lived up to his nickname, charging through the field to finish fifth.

Heat winners were Mike Higley, Lynn Starry, Claxton and Clancy.

Always the most competitive and exciting feature, the entertaining USRA Stock Cars went green to checkers once again. After picking up the earlier heat race win, “Big” Jeff Dixon used the front row starting spot to take the early advantage and spectators could throw a blanket over the entire field as racing action heated up on the track.

“Hollywood” Dean Wray searched high and low but could not find a way around the speedy Dixon. Just when it appeared that the winner would be Dixon, out of nowhere charged Thomas Roberts from third to first en route to picking up feature win number three on the season.

Dixon, driving a near flawless race, placed second, moving Wray to third. Starting sotgun on the field, Shawn Lee was the hard charger of the feature as he battled his way to fourth. Jake “The Hulk” Cameron raced his way to another consistent top-five finish.

USRA Modified racing action witnessed Zach Sanders become a two-time winner this season. Darren Shaw, in his 2014 debut, finished second by a fraction of an inch over 2013 track champion Steven Glenn with great side-by-side action in a drag race to the checkers.

With Glenn third, Dennis “Big Daddy” Elliott showed what champions are made of as he placed a solid fourth. Young gun Trevor Hunt was impressive again as he raced his way to finish fifth.

Heat winners were Sanders and Glenn.
