Friday night storm spoils Grays Harbor Raceway event

ELMA, Wash. -- It looked like the Grays Harbor Raceway was going to pull off a miracle on Friday, June 22, but Mother Nature had other plans and brought a rain storm that ended the night two laps into the Hobby Stock feature. It was race six for the Wild Wild West Modified Shootout which featured Ken Schrader in competition along with twenty-eight other Modified drivers. Hobby Stocks and Hornets were in competition alongside the Modifieds. The track crew tried to do their very best to keep the event afloat with the safety trucks on the track for over an hour but the rain did not stop.

Heat race winners in the first round for Modifieds were Scott Lenz of Shady Cove, Hoquiam’s Zack Simpson, Mark Wauge of Jacksonville and Travis Peery from Ft. Jones, Calif. In the second round of heat races Shelton chauffer Scott Miller, Justin Holt of Central Point, Ken Schrader of Concord, N.C., and Nanoose, British Columbia’s Graham Cook.

The Grays Harbor Raceway has cancelled the Saturday, June 23, program due to the rain. The next event scheduled for the 3/8-mile oval is Saturday, June 30, for Pepsi Night. Classes in action will be 360 Sprints, USRA Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and Hornets. For more information log on to the official track website at www.graysharborraceway.com.
