After several races have been forced into cancelation by mother nature the Caney Valley Speedway was finally able to get a show in the books Saturday night. With a full pit area (95 cars) and a full grandstand the night was sure to be exciting.
Racing begins this Saturday, April 11, at the Caney Valley Speedway with action in six classes. Headlining the program will be USRA Modifieds as they will be battling for track and national points in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series and a $1,000 top prize.
Late last season, the 1/3-mile semi-banked clay oval opened up under the leadership of Kerry Gorby. Knowing that some racers in the area had been shortened by other tracks closing, he opened an existing facility, put on some great races and rewarded the racers for their support.
In what may be a first in organized racing, three of the four drivers that captured the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series titles in 2007 repeated the feat in 2008. Brad Waits captured his second straight USRA Modified crown, while the same can be said for Tom Schmitt (USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars) and Matt Jones (USRA Karl Chevrolet B-Mods). Jason McDaniel (USRA Hobby Stocks) won his first title after finishing second last year.
Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series results for Saturday, Aug. 23 from the Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan.
The fans got their money's worth Saturday night at the Caney Valley Speedway during the second night of racing at the newly-refurbished facility in Southern Kansas. In the USRA Modified feature, Justin "Whitey" Folk and Johnny Bone Jr. battled through lapped traffic. After a lap 18 caution, Folk was able to hold on to the lead and take the win, his 15th of the season and first at CVS.
After a big opening night last Saturday, the races have been rained out for Saturday night, Aug. 9. Racing resumes next Saturday, Aug. 16, with action in five classes. Headlining the program will be USRA-sanctioned Modifieds as they will be battling for track and national points in the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series.
Finally the day had come for the track to make its debut after all the hard work that had been done, and there were plenty of people there to see it. With a packed grandstand and over 60 cars, the night went as well as it could have for a first race.
The Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., will reopen this Saturday, Aug. 2, for the first weekly racing program at the 1/4-mile semi-banked clay oval in Southern Kansas for the first time since April 2004. USRA Modifieds will headline the program.
