Garrett Stearns won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.

A huge crowd descended upon the Vado Speedway Park on Saturday for the annual MVT Night fireworks spectacular. A giant fireworks display highlighted the night along with great racing action for the USRA Modifieds, Medieval USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods.

Jose De La Fuente and Sherman Barnett sat on the front row for the USRA B-Mod main event and a great early race battle ensured for the top spot between both front row starters and third starting Lucas Ward. The trio battled for the lead over the first few laps, while 13th starting Fito Gallardo and 20th starting Ricardo Olague Jr. were working their way through traffic toward the front.

Gallardo got into the top five early in the event and began to pressure Ward, Barnett, Aasa Flores and Dickie Gorham for the lead.

Gallardo was able to use the high line and race around the top three competitors into the lead and once he got there, he never looked back.

Gallardo raced away from the field to the victory with Flores crossing the line in second.

Gorham edged Olague and Ward for third at the line as well.

After a break for the fireworks display, Jonathan Burton, Garrett Stearns and Daniel Blaeser engaged in a very entertaining battle for the lead at the outset of the Medieval USRA Stock Car feature event with the three drivers swapping the top spot lap after lap, while Jason Josselyn and Bryan Bennett were working their way through the field from their eighth and tenth starting spots.

Blaeser tried to split Burton and Stearns for the lead and got in too hot and spun, causing a restart, which bunched the field. On the ensuing restart, Burton and Stearns reassumed their battle for the lead until Josselyn spun and was forced to the tail as well.

From there, Burton and Stearns continued a great battle out front, while Josselyn was rallying from the back into the top five late in the race. Josselyn got to second, but was not quite able to reel in Stearns, as he raced to his first ever feature win over Josselyn, Bennett, Burton and Shane McNutt.

Twenty-nine USRA Modifieds were scheduled to take the green flag in the night’s 25-lap finale with Tim Tharp and Nathan Smith sharing the front row.

On the start, third starting Josh Cain rolled by both front row starters and took the lead, which he would never relinquish. Behind Cain, Fito Gallardo, Jake Gallardo and Johnny Scott were in a fantastic battle for second with the Gallardos side by side just in front of Scott, who was driving Jaime Torres’ No. 44JT.

Just behind them, Royal Jones, Jimmy Ray and Nick Rivera were in a great, sometimes three-wide battle for fifth for much of the race as well. Fito was able to get the best of Jake and began pressuring Cain out front for the top spot in the late stages of the event, but Cain was up to the challenge and raced to his eighth win in his last ten starts between his Modified and Late Model.

Jake Gallardo snuck by Fito Gallardo  in a photo-finish for second at the line with Scott a close fourth and Jones finishing fifth after starting tenth.

The Vado Speedway Park will be back in action Saturday, July 17, with another Hot City Nights event where residents of San Miguel, La Union, San Pablo and Chamberino will be admitted into the grandstand area for just $5 with a valid ID. Pits open at 4 p.m. with the grandstand opening at 5.
