Carlos Ahumada Jr. won the USRA Modified main event.

Another Hot City Night was held at the Vado Speedway Park in Vado, N.M., on Saturday, May 22, with the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series featuring USRA Modifieds, Medieval USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods.

Hector Prigione and Daniel Lozoya sat on the front row for the 20-lap USRA B-Mod main event, but the night belonged to 8th staring Jesse Haynie. Haynie wasted little time blasting around the cushion and into the lead early in the main event and never looked back en route to his first career feature victory, which he picked up in domination fashion. Kyle McCutcheon, sitting a Pete Vargas-owned machine raced his way form 12th up to a solid runner up finish with 11th starting Greg Gorham crossing the finish line in third. Dustin Smith and Ricardo Olague Jr, who was in a Sherman Barnett-owned #82 ran fourth and fifth respectively.

The Medieval USRA Stock Car feature was up next with Jason Josselyn hopping into the top spot early on but his No. 74 was not able to stay out front as eighth-stating Bryan Bennett rolled on by early in the race and walked off with his fourth feature win of the season in the process.

Shane McNutt moved forward from his 7th starting spot to claim the second spot at the checkered with 16th starting Jed Smith rallying to cross the finish line with a third place finish. Josselyn faded to finish fourth, just head of Fred Gibson in fifth.

The final event of the night lived up to the billing as 22 USRA Modifieds took to the speedway for their 25-lap finale. Jake Gallardo slipped past both front row starters Christy Barnett and Tom Georges on lap 2 and took command. Gallardo began to stretch his lead on the field while Carlos Ahumada Jr., Barnett, Georges and Xavier Ortega were battling in a tight group for second.

Georges and Ortega got together, causing a caution and shuffling the field behind leader Gallardo out front. On the restart, Gallardo again blasted off out front with 21st-starting Nick Rivera slicing his way through the field and appearing in the top five at the mid-point of the event.

Gallardo continued to lead with Ahumada providing heavy pressure from behind. Ahumada waited until just the right time and pounced on the leader and overhauled Gallardo with five laps remaining and was able to drive off over the final five circuits for his first win of the season and first since August of 2019.

Gallardo hung on for second with Rivera completing his charge to cross the line in third, ahead of Jimmy Ray and Ortega, who charged back through the field after going to the tail for an early caution.

The Vado Speedway Park will be back in action Memorial Day Weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday, May 29-30, featuring USRA B-Mods both days plus Sprint Cars, Late Models, Legends and Claimers. Gates open at 5 .p.m with racing at 7:30.

For fans not able to attend in person, all events held during the 2021 season at the Vado Speedway Park will also be live streamed online WatchFYE.tv.
