Graham, Griffith go to Iron Man victory lane at Sports Park Raceway
Pat Graham won the American Racer USRA Stock Car main event.
The “Road to Independence” led from Webster City to Fort Dodge, Iowa, on Thursday with the Christie Door Company Iron Man Challenge built by Medieval Chassis headlining a four-division card at the Sports Park Raceway.
The American Racer USRA Stock Cars saw Pat Graham of Ankeny power his way into victory lane over polesitter Jesse Brown of Nashua with Bill Crimmins of Fort Dodge, eighth-starting Todd Staley of Webster City fourth and veteran Steve Jackson of Polk City completing the top five.
Ty Griffith of Webster City scored his second Iron Man win of the week by fending off Jim Chisholm of Osage in the USRA B-Mod feature race. Former Iron Man champ Dan Hovden of Decorah was third while Josh Roney of Postville held on for fourth ahead of Protivin’s Ben Moudry.
Another racer backing up his effort Wednesday at the Hamilton County Speedway was Dustin Gulbrandson of Sioux Falls, S.D., who score the win in the Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stocks. Eric Knutson of Slater, Jeremy Crimmins of Fort Dodge, Cory Roe of Webster City and Levi Vander Weide of Sioux Falls rounded out the top five.
Jade Lange of Humboldt was a wire-to-wire winner in the USRA Tuner main event with former Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national champion Ryan Bryant of Mason City settling for the runner-up honors. Third went to John Gill of Marshalltown, fourth was Justin Nielson of Lu Verne and Sac City’s Cody Pontious crossed the finish line fifth.
Fast Friday: The “Road to Independence” continues tomorrow at the Fayette County Speedway in West Union, Iowa, with the Christie Door Company Iron Man Challenge built by Medieval Chassis featuring American Racer USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods back in action.
Sponsored by Brown's Sales & Leasing, Friday's show will also feature Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stocks, USRA Tuners and Mod-Lites with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing to follow.
The Fayette County Speedway is one of the oldest, continuously running weekly racetracks in Iowa. In the 1930s, the Fayette County Fairgrounds was a horse racing track that circled just about the entire fairgrounds. In 1991, promoter Jerry Blue built the 3/8-mile track that is raced on today.
The track is now operated by the Fayette County Ag Society’s Race Committee. Their goal is to provide the best racing show possible with 50/50 ticket proceeds going back into facility improvements including new women’s restrooms, updating of the concession stand and the new grandstand walkway. Come see what legendary Iowa driver Gary Webb calls one of Iowa’s best kept secrets in racing.
The track is a semi-banked 3/8-mile clay oval located 0.9 mile south of US 18 on SR 150, then 0.1 mile east on SR 56 (372 Fair St, West Union, IA 52175).

Spectacular Saturday: The annual Fourth of July event at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah is always a fan favorite and one that somehow makes incredible memories year after year.
In addition to the Stock Cars and B-Mods, this year’s event sponsored by Weis Buick will also showcase the Hobby Stocks, Tuners and Mod-Lites with racing at 6:30 p.m.
Situated at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds, the track is a semi-banked 1/4-mile clay oval located 1.8 miles east of US 52 on SR 9, then 1.0 mile northwest on Montgomery St., then northeast on E. Main St. (900 East Main St, Decorah, IA 52101).

The Iron Man Story: Launched in 2010 as a series for Stock Cars, the USRA B-Mod division was added to the Iron Man lineup in 2011. Between the two classes, 14 different champions have emerged from 19 title chases.
Derek Green of Granada, Minn., grabbed his second Christie Door Company Iron Man Challenge title for the Stock Cars in 2019 while Jared Boumeester locked down his first crown in the B-Mods last year.
Past Stock Car champions include Green (2017, 2019), Dillon Anderson (2018), Kyle Falck (2016), Tom Schmitt (2012, 2015), Mitch Hovden (2013, 2014), Mike Van Genderen (2011) and Nathan Wood (2010).
Past B-Mod champions include Boumeester (2019), Dan Hovden (2017, 2018), Andy Bryant (2016), Dakota Foster (2015), Cory Crapser (2013, 2014), Trevor Hunt (2012) and Cayden Carter (2011).
All Christie Door Company Iron Man Challenge events also award national points in the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series.
