CRESCO, Iowa -- The USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series rolled on Sunday at the Cresco Speedway with the USRA Modifieds battling for bragging rights on their final event of 2006 and the CPU/i wireless Modified Season Championship.

In Outlaw Hobby action, Jason Borsheim of Mabel, Minn., crossed the finish line first, but was disqualified during post-race technical inspection, giving the win to Jake Ludeking of Decorah. Austin Curtin of Waukon moved up to pocket the runner-up paycheck, while Brady Halverson of Ridgeway garnered third. Fourth went to Tony Vick of Ridgeway and points leader Patty Fosaaen of Waukon completed the first five across the finish line.

Elma's Brandon Hare captured the USRA Hobby Stock feature, with Chris Hovden of Cresco, Mitch Hovden of Decorah, David Lickteig of Cresco and Ridgeway's Andy Stinson finishing second through fifth, respectively.

The USRA B-Modified main event saw Jeremy LaPlant of Elgin hold off the challenges of points leader Brian Kunkle for the win. Shane Panos of Decorah was third, Junior Boyer of Calmar finished fourth and Chris Fretheim of Decorah garnered the fifth spot.

Brian Gjere of Mabel, Minn., captured the USRA Stock Car checkers with a powerful run from the fifth starting spot. Waucoma's Tory Reicks took second, Tom Schmitt of Independence finished third, Lynn Panos of Protivin grabbed fourth and Shawn Peter of Mabel, Minn., rounded out the top five finishers.

The excitement for the USRA main event was increased when Dan Bohr of Decorah accepted the Bud Challenge and started 16th in the field. Charging toward the front, Bohr had climbed to third before his motor turned sour and lost a cylinder. Opening night winner Darren Walsh led from the start before Brad Bakken of Garner caught him. The pair raced side by side into turn 1 and made contact, resulting in both drivers ending up at the back of the field. Defending track champion Ron Konkel was strong all night and took home the victory while Kevin Pittman of Waterloo was second. West Union's Layne Meyer finished third while Bohr hung on for fourth. Michael Darnell was fifth. Pittman had the USRA Modified track championship sewn up before the first green flag of the evening.

The action returns to the Cresco speedway next Sunday, Sept. 3, for the final event of the 2006 season as the Bumper To Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series bring their fire-breathing 410 winged machines for the annual Budweiser Labor Day Classic presented by Kabrick Distributing. Also on the menu will be Season Championship races for four classes in the USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly Racing Series: USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks and Outlaw Hobbies.
