CRESCO, Iowa -- The USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series continued at the Cresco Speedway on Sunday, Aug. 6, featuring the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series on H & S Motors Night.

In the USRA B-Modified feature race, Jeremy LaPlant of Elgin picked up the win after an attrition-riddled race that saw LaPlant as the only driver to cross the finish line under his own power. In the final turn, Virgil Johnson of Waukon made contact with LaPlant as they battled for the lead. The result was Johnson's car careening into the machine of Decorah's Chris Fretheim, taking both cars out of the contest. Fretheim was awarded second with Johnson third.

Mitch Hovden of Decorah captured the USRA Hobby Stock main event, followed by Chris Hovden of Cresco, Brandon Hare of Elma, Kyle Buxengard of Spring Grove, Minn., and Bernie Adams of Stacyville.

Just two weeks after winning his career-first Modified race in Britt, Iowa, Ryan York of Racine, Minn., is dusting off a second spot in his trophy room after winning Sunday's USRA Modified feature at Cresco. York out gunned a tough field of competitors, including runner-up Darrin Walch of Postville and third-place finisher Kevin Pittman of Waterloo. West Union's Layne Meyer grabbed the fourth spot while Shawn Ryan of Waterloo rounded out the top five finishers.

Austin Curtin defeated fellow Waukon resident Patty Fosaaen to take home the honors in the Outlaw Hobby main event. Dillon Anderson of Decorah received a third-place paycheck, while Jason Borsheim of Mabel, Minn., took fourth and Kyle Falck of Decorah garnered fifth.

It was just another Sunday night in the USRA Stock Car division, with door-to-door action from start to finish that left the Cresco Speedway fans salivating for more. Brian Gjere of Mabel, Minn., fought off the challenges of track points leader Tom Schmitt of Independence, who started 10th in the field after winning last Sunday's feature race. Kevin Bidne of Decorah wound up third in the battle for the checkers while polesitter Shay Curtin of Cresco hung on for fourth place. Mike Kelly of Lanesboro, Minn., came from ninth to finish fifth.

The action returns to the Cresco speedway next Sunday, Aug. 13, with five fast & furious classes in action, including the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series featuring USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks, plus Outlaw Hobbies. Admission is just $9 for adults, juniors (12-18) and seniors (62+) get in for $7 and children under 12 are admitted free of charge. Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6:15 and racing at 6:30.
