Mullens slides back into HMT victory lane

Tanner Mullens won the USRA Modified main event.

PARK CITY, Kan. (Sept. 20, 2025)—Tanner Mullens delivered a dominating performance Saturday night at 81 Speedway, leading all 30 laps to capture the Dalice Franz Memorial and his seventh USRA Heartland Modified Tour victory of the season.

Starting on the outside of the front row, Mullens immediately jumped to the lead and never looked back, pacing the field through lapped traffic while the battle behind him intensified. Even though multiple cautions slowed the pace of the race late, Mullens mastered every restart and never gave the rest of the field a chance at the lead.

“It’s good to be here and to be able to win this Dalice Franz Memorial race,” Mullens said in victory lane. “I watched the Franz family a lot growing up, so it’s cool to win this one, especially in front of all the fans here at home.”

While Mullens dominated the race itself, the championship fight got even tighter for the second night in a row. Brandon Givens charged forward from his 19th starting spot to finish sixth.  Bobby Williams crossed the line in eighth, seeing his points lead shrink to a slim four point lead over Givens.

Shadren Turner finished third and gained more ground as well, bringing all three title contenders within 25 points of each other with only two races left in the season.

The series is set for a season finale double header at the I-35 Speedway on October 17th and 18, were the extremely tight points battle will be settled and a champion will be crowned at the Mike and Kyle Johnson owned northwest Missouri bull ring.
