Holzmeister, Cain, Jobin headline second day of Southwest Stock Car Showdown

Josh Cain won the second of two USRA Stock Car features during the Southwest Stock Car Showdown at the Sandia Speedway in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025.
The Sandia Speedway roared to life on Friday as the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series brought Day 2 of the Southwest Stock Car Showdown to the high desert.
Fans witnessed a night of intense dirt track racing action, with the USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods delivering standout performances under the lights. The event showcased a mix of local talent and out-of-state competitors vying for supremacy on the challenging oval.
In the USRA Stock Car division, two thrilling feature races highlighted the evening.
The first saw Doug Holzmeister of Colby, Kan., storm to victory from the eighth starting position in a 17-car field.
Holzmeister held off a hard-charging Mason Martin of Kaufman, Texas, who finished second after starting on the pole. Las Cruces, N.M.’s Fito Gallardo rounded out the podium in third, starting fourth and maintaining a strong pace throughout the race.
The second feature belonged to defending USRA Stock Car National Champion Josh Cain of Rio Rancho, who capitalized on his third-place starting position to claim the win in a 15-car field.
Cain fended off Cameron Starry of Corpus Christi, Texas, who finished second after starting on the front row.
Andrew Fanning, also from Rio Rancho, completed the top three, making an impressive climb from eighth to secure a podium finish.
Devon Jobin won the USRA B-Mod feature during the Southwest Stock Car Showdown at the Sandia Speedway in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025.
The USRA B-Mod feature provided its own share of drama in an 18-car showdown.
Devon Jobin of Alamogordo emerged victorious after starting ninth, weaving through the field to take the checkered flag while Jonathon Ortega of Las Cruces delivered a remarkable performance, charging from 13th to finish second.
Peyton Gallardo, another Las Cruces native, completed the top three after, starting 10th.
The Southwest Stock Car Showdown continues to build momentum as a premier early-season event, drawing competitors from across the region to test their skills at Sandia Speedway. Racing continues Saturday with a $10,000-to-win finale for the USRA Stock Cars.
