Gulbrandson breaks Stanton’s stranglehold at Hamilton County Speedway

Saturday was Ladies Night presented by Neighborhood Realty at the Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive with a special Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series seven-division racing card on the menu for women, men, young and old.

Defending USRA Modified track champion J.D. Auringer of Waterloo also cruised to victory from the pole position to score his third main event win of the 2019 campaign. Jeff James of Stanton grabbed the second spot with Garett Wilson of Carlisle in third, Chase Ellingson of Williams finishing fourth and Ankeny ace Ben Nading the fifth driver to cross the finish line.

In the American Racer Foundry USRA Stock Cars, points leader Reid Keller of Webster City was impressive in his path to Integrity Trucking Victory Lane, coming from 14th to get the job done. Meanwhile, Derek Green of Granada, Minn., came from the 12th starting position to finish second while Churdan’s Jason Minnehan wound up third after starting eighth—the best grid spot among the top five finishers. Ninth-starting Dylan Suhr of Waterloo took the checkers in fourth place and Josh Zieman of Plymouth passed five cars en route to a fifth-place finish in his season debut at the HCS.

Rocky Caudle of Ellsworth became the fifth different winner in five shows so far for the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods this year. The polesitter held off fellow front row starter Doug McCollough of Webster City, who strengthened his points lead in the class. Defending track champ Ty Griffith of Webster City went from tenth to third, Nate Whitehurst of Mason took home fourth-place money and Levi Chipp of Latimer finished fifth in his repeat bid.

Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks saw Eric Stanton’s dominating three-race win streak come to an end Saturday when five-time reigning Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national champion Dustin Gulbrandson of Sioux Falls, S.D., beat 12th-starting Stanton to the checkered flag. Scott Dobel of Manly was third, Jamie Songer of Ankeny got paid for fourth place and Mason City’s Zach Smidt held on for a fifth-place effort.

The USRA Tuner car count was in the double digits and Matt Oberhelman of Fort Dodge outran fellow front row starter Oliver Monson of Clear Lake to pocket the top prize. Defending track and national champion Ryan Bryant of Mason City took third, Sam Umbarger of Garner crossed the stripe in fourth and Boone’s Myke Gorham was fifth.
