Jake Gallardo won the USRA Modified main event.

The track looked perfect around 5 p.m. Saturday at the Southern New Mexico Speedway, and it was packed and ready for Mother Nature to drop some rain on it. But the rain eluded SNMS for about two hours. The rain delayed the races about two hours.

With only one Holley USRA Stock Car heat, substitute driver Jake Gallardo in the No. 777 come home the winner in heat race action. The $1,000-to-win main event find Donavon Flores  take home the big payday while Gallardo ran out of laps in his quest to catch the eventual winner.

Mark Morris was right behind in third, Wyatt Loveland finished fourth for the night followed by Devon Jobin.

Thirty-one USRA Modifieds originally checked in for the night, but the rain delay left us with only 19 racing. Fito Gallardo spun in the main event, collecting points leader Bumper Jones early in the race and sending both cars to the back.

For the first part of the race, Jared Perez and Tom Georges swapped position until Jake Gallardo got by them both as well as Carlos Ahumada Jr. to take the lead. Following right behind was Royal Jones.

Fito Gallardo found his way back to the front while Royal Jones squeezed by the younger Gallardo for the lead but a caution flag wiped out the pass and Jake Gallardo remained the leader for the restart and then held off Royal Jones for the final four laps.

FIto Gallardo got by Jones for second, Ahumada wheeled into the fourth spot and Bumper Jones rebounded to round out the top five.

Next week, the Holley USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods take the spotlight with 305 Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models and Legends Cars also in action. We look forward to seeing you all out here next Saturday night. As always, gates open at 5 p.m. and, Mother Nature allowing, racing starts at 7:45.
