Sathoff, Anderson, Sampson, Maass claim Nobles County Fair wins

Luke Sathoff won the Holley USRA Stock Car feature.

Luke Sathoff won the Holley USRA Stock Car feature.

With the lights of the Nobles County Fair midway as a backdrop, Thor Anderson stormed to an amazing Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature win Saturday night at Nobles County Speedway. Anderson started ninth and, after a long delay for a protested call, was still outside the top five before the restart of the 15-lap race.

When the main event returned to green Anderson immediately moved up to the cushion, passing one car after another. Justin Voeltz, Dave Kennedy, Andrew Ahlers and Justin Luinenburg were all left in the dust after Anderson figured out the perfect line for his setup.

Luinenburg, the current points leader, finished second. Andrew Ahlers led the early laps but dropped to third.

Luke Sathoff darted to the front of the Holley USRA Stock Car feature immediately on the drop of the green flag. He stayed there. He dominated. For Sathoff it was win number six of the season.

Fellow Jackson driver Levi Feltman was impressive in his second place finish. He got there by passing Rich Gregoire. Jon DeBoer took third after winning the previous Saturday’s feature.

The Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stock feature saw some of the division’s best drivers come from the mid-to-back of the field in an effort to get around early leader Tyler Pospisil. Keeran Sampson moved up from sixth to grab the lead. Meanwhile, Jamie Songer was turning heads along with the top two drivers in USRA national points—Dustin Gulbrandson and Eric Stanton.

Three-wide racing ruled the night as the race progressed – and that was just fine with Sampson who scored the win. Pospisil held on for second. Stanton passed 14 cars to finish third. Gulbrandson passed 11 cars before taking fourth. And Songer came from tenth to fifth.

Sampson’s win was his first at NCS. The all-important points battle has Gulbrandson leading Justin Luinenburg by 56 with just four weeks left in the season.

Attrition and a strong last two laps pushed Gavin Maass into victory lane as the evening’s USRA Tuner feature winner on Pioneer Seeds Night. Maass came from sixth to beat Kent Miller to the finish line.

The Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series returns to Nobles County Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 11. Hot laps are scheduled for 7 p.m. Racing follows immediately. Please visit Nobles County Speedway’s Facebook page for more details or log in at www.NoblesCountySpeedway.com.
