Jake Gallardo won the USRA Modified feature.

After missing the last USRA Modified race at the Southern New Mexico Speedway, Jake Gallardo wasted no time in coming back to the front. In smooth fashion, with one of the least beat up cars out there, Gallardo held off a late-race charge by current points leader Bumper Jones to end up victorious.

Last week, Donavon Flores seemed to stumble on the last lap in the last corner and Jason Josselyn held him off for the win in the Holley USRA Stock Cars. Flores didn’t make the same mistake this weekend as he moved into the lead with four laps to go, getting by Mark Morris without the stumble or hiccup he had last weekend.

Morris had a strong showing all night and held off Shane McNutt for the runner-up finish while Jason Privette battled to bring his machine home fourth and Pete Vargas rounded out the top 5.

With 27 USRA Modifieds checked in, four solid heats set the field for the main event with drivers battling up front and swapping positions early in the race.

Jones slid in on the last lap to a second-place finish after battling with Fito Gallardo and Carlos Ahumada Jr., but several yellow flags did not deter Jake Gallardo as he took the lead early on and held on to win with some hard racing going on behind him.

Fito Gallardo came in third with Ahumada coming home fourth. Rounding out the top 5 was Jared Perez who kept moving forward through all of the cautions during the race.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for next weekend’s racing action. We will see the return of the Holley USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods plus Lucas Oil POWRi 305 Sprint Cars, Late Models and Casa Nissan Legends Cars. As always, gates open at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 7:45.
