Carlos Ahumada Jr. won the USRA Modified feature on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M.

In commanding fashion with the best of the best behind him, Carlos Ahumada Jr. took the checkered flag in the USRA Modified main event on Saturday night at the Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M. Seemingly not missing a single mark, Ahumada held off veteran racers in Christy Barnett and Jake Gallardo after a late-race red flag to take his first ever win.

The Holley USRA Stock Cars started the evening off, it looked like Cecil Fanning would once again come out victorious but a pass down low coming out of turn 2 sent former Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national champion Donavon Flores to the lead.

Jed Smith caught up and took second. Battling for the majority of the race to stay up front, Bryan Bennett took third with less than 10 laps to go while Shane McNuttto settled for fourth. Jason Josselyn rounded out the top 5.

The USRA Modified main event saw 26 Rancho Milagro drivers take the opening green flag. Jesse Haynie led the first handful of laps, holding off the charges of Tim Tharp and Fito Gallardo. Not long after, Ahumada emerged from the first four rows to take the lead while Barnett and Fito Gallardo battled for the second position until Gallardo lost an engine and a fire under the hood of his No. G17 caused a red flag.

Ahumada brought the field back to the green flag as Jake Gallardo got around Barnett for second and that's where they would stay as Ahumada cruised to victory. Gallardo, however, was disqualified during post-race technical inspections and that moved Barnett back to second in the final rundown Jake Boles moved from tenth to a third-place finish, Tharp held on for fourth and Royal Jones completed the top 5.
