Current USRA Modified national points leader Ryan Gillmore of Springfield grabbed the lead from polesitter Jim Body and withstood a green-white-checkered finish from Mitch Keeter in USRA Modified action Saturday at the quick quarter-mile, multi-groove Springfield Raceway on Saturday night.

With the win, Gillmore was able to reverse the finish earlier in the season as Keeter took the win over the defending Out-Pace USRA B-Mod national champ that night. It took Gillmore five laps to get around Body as Keeter was staying close in the lead duo with three-wide racing in the pack.

The quick-paced feature didn't see a caution until lap 15 when outside front row starter Shawn Strong spun in turn four. Current USRA Modified track points leader Jody Tillman overcame a poor qualifying effort to charge from 13th to fifth and Brian Green came from 18th to a top ten.

While Gillmore and Keeter kept action fast, Body and James Thompson went door to door for the third spot before Body nipped Thompson at the line.

Ryan Gillmore won the USRA Modified feature on Saturday, May 5, at the Springfield Raceway in Springfield, Mo.

Out-Pace USRA B-Mod action saw Jackie Dalton shoot from the pole to lead early, but had to survive a late surge from Justin Comer in getting his second win of the season.

Pre-race favorite Rex Merritt, who started third, was involved in a lap-one incident in which the car almost went airborn but recovered. He started dead last to make a lot of moves to finish sixth while young gun Taylor Moore made up a lot of ground while charging forward.

Dalton, a former multi-time USRA Modified track champion, has caught fire lately in the B-Mod division. Gillmore was scheduled to start outside on the front row next to Dalton but broke an engine right at the flag stand of his qualifying heat and was a scratch for the feature.

For Comer, it was a welcome run as the team has been struggling a bit early this season but is coming strong.
