Lakeside Speedway 2018 season begins with Wednesday practice, Friday racing


Despite a recent string of lingering wintry weather, action is set to resume at Lakeside Speedway for the 64th season of competition at the oldest sporting venue in Kansas City when drivers return for the only pre-season practice session of the year on Wednesday, April 11.

The pit area will open at 4 p.m., spectator gates at 5 with free grandstand admission, and on-track practice from 6 to 9 p.m. Adult pit passes are $20, pit passes for kids ages 6 and under are $10.

Then, on Friday, April 13, the thirtieth year of ‘Racing on the River’s Edge’ at Wolcott Drive begins with the season opener and Cancer Awareness Night presented by Tompkins Industries featuring USRA Modifieds, Holley USRA Stock Cars, Out-Pace USRA B-Mods, Grand Nationals, Factory Stocks and E-Mods. Pits open at 4:30 p.m., spectator gates at 5, drivers meeting at 6:30, hot laps 6:45 and racing at 7:30 p.m.

Admission and ticket information for opening night includes: General Admission $12, Seniors (65+) and Military $10, Kids (ages 7-12) $6, Children (ages 6 & under) FREE, Suites $20, Kids (ages 2-12) $10, and Pit Pass $30, Kids (ages 6 & under) $10. When at the track, tune your radio dial to 87.7 FM for a radio broadcast of all the action.

The 2018 season marks the debut of a Westhold Transponder and Scoring System. The track will rent the transponders and sell pouches to participating drivers throughout the season.
