The 2018 Touring Outlaw Modified Series season opener kicked off at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway under heavy clouds and the threat of rain.

With a field of 29 entries, we pushed on to dodge the rain with luck and had a great race for the fans.

Colby Smith was the high point winner from the heat races and with the redraw fourth starting position.

At the drop of the green flag, Smith split the front row to take the lead on lap one.

Defending TOMS champion Triston Dycus, starting in the eighth spot, worked his way through the field trying high and low.

At lap 11, Dycus cleared the second-place car of Mitchell Clements to set his sights on Smith, but with Smith having more than a half-straight-away, lead it proved a tough task to make up.

As lapped traffic entered the picture, Dycus narrowed the gap as he crawled to Smith's back bumper.

Aa the white flag waved, Dycus did all he could to make his move but the drive that Smith was getting off the bottom of turn two was too much to overcome.

Smith took home the $1,500 prize in the 25-lap race, leading all 25 laps in dominant fashion.

The next race is April 6 at the RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas.
