Mitch Hovden won the Holley USRA Stock Car feature.

The Cresco Speedway hosted the Iron Man Challenge Sunday evening with Decorah’s Mitch Hovden nailing his second Holley USRA Stock Car win in three nights and Cresco, Iowa, native Jason Schlangen capturing the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod main event.

Schlangen, who started sixth, wrestled the lead away from Osage, Iowa’s Jim Chisholm at the halfway point of the 20-lap Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature, and then sailed to his first Iron Man win of the 2017 campaign and a $500 payday.

Points leader Dan Hovden of Decorah charged from the 10th starting spot to finish second while Chisholm held on for third. Fourth was current Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points leader Andy Bryant of Fort Scott, Kan., and Trevor Fecht of Allison rounded out the top five.

Jason Schlangen won the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature.

In the Holley USRA Stock Car 20-lapper, Hovden secured his fourth Iron Man trophy of the season and $750 for his effort.

Last year’s Iron Man titlist, Kyle Falck, snagged the lead from Hovden on the fourth lap but Hovden rallied back to regain the top spot from his fellow Decorah racer for good with five laps to go.

Points leader Derek Green of Granada, Minn., came from ninth on the grid to get third, Tom Schmitt of Independence finished fourth in just his second Iron Man start of the year and Webster City’s Todd Staley completed the first five to the checkered flag.

The next Iron Man Challenge event for the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods will take place at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., for the 19th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree while the Holley USRA Stock Cars are back in action Oct. 12-14 at the I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo., during the USRA Nationals.
