Racing and BBQ come together for 'Red White Blue & Que' July 8-9 at Lucas Oil Speedway

Championship barbecue will be on the schedule along with championship racing in just a few weeks at Lucas Oil Speedway.

The Inaugural "Red White Blue & Que" presented by Lucas Oil Speedway is set for July 8-9. The Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned competition will bring some of the nation's top barbecue teams to south-central Missouri—and raise funds for a worthy cause.

The barbecue contest is in conjunction with the July 8 Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series program's Veterans & Military Appreciation Night Presented by the Springfield News-Leader Media Group. Keeping with the veterans and military theme, proceeds from the Red White Blue & Que will go to The Warriors Journey, an online resource for military warriors and their families. Visit TheWarriorsJourney.org for more information on the organization based in Springfield, Mo., and the ways it offers help to military veterans and their families.

All veterans and active military, with ID, will be admitted free to the races. And fans attending the July 8 program will have the opportunity to sample barbecue from the competing teams, on the Lucas Oil Speedway midway prior to the races, for $5, and vote for their favorite to determine "People's Choice" winner.

The barbecue teams, which will set up on the Lake Lucas midway, will compete in the KCBS competition on July 9 with a prize fund of $5,000 on the line. Red White Blue & Que is a Missouri State Championship points event and a qualifying event for the American Royal World Championships and Jack Daniels Invitational, two of barbecue's majors later in the year.

Team entry spots remain available. For more information on Red White Blue & Que or to download an entry form visit RedWhiteBlueQ.com. Contest organizer Michelle Higgins can be reached at MichelleHiggins31@yahoo.com or by calling (417) 682-1568.

Red White Blue & Que also a part of the Ozarks BBQ Alliance Chase, a five-competition series with a $2,000 prize fund up for grabs for teams entering at least three events. It began earlier this year at Smoke on the Border in Gravette, Ark., and continues with the Willard Freedom Feast (June 23-24), Red White Blue & Que, Rockin' Apples in Appleton City (Aug. 25-26) and Table Rock Boats and Bones in Kimberling City, Mo. (Sept. 16-17).

Visit the Ozarks BBQ Alliance Facebook page for more information on the Chase.

Classes in action in the July 8 Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series program include the Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models, the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds, the Big O Tires Street Stocks and the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods. The Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods will be the evening's featured class running for a 25-lap, $500-to-win main event.

Action at the speedway continues this Saturday night with the Lucas Oil ASCS Winged Sprint National Tour's Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek Finale. The POWRi WAR Sprint Cars also will be on hand with gates opening at 5 p.m., hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:35.
