Short Track Shootout set for January 19-22 at Southern New Mexico Speedway

It’s going to get loud in the Land of Enchantment this January when the Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M., hosts the inaugural Short Track Shootout, January 19-22, 2017.

Presented by Barnett Harley-Davidson, G3 Fitness, Mesilla Valley Transportation, S&S Fishing & Rental and Shaw Trucking, the week’s trio of big events will be highlighted by Super Late Models and USRA Modifieds. Super Late Models will compete for $5,000 to win each night while USRA Modifieds have a $2,000 top prize Friday and Saturday, and $3,000 to win Sunday.

“The action at Southern New Mexico Speedway is second to none,” said the track’s General Manager, Rue Stone. “It’s a hefty payout for every class, so fans will see a lot of on-track racing on the high banks for a fan-friendly ticket price.

“This first-time event will be huge for dirt racing fans, and it will just get bigger and bigger each year as we continue to add more sponsors and more money to bring in more and more of the nation’s biggest names in the sport.”

Sun Valley Hardware USRA Stock Cars, Jack Key Auto Group X-Mods and Casa Nissan Legends Cars will also be in action all three days. Friday and Saturday’s feature winners get $500 each and a visit to victory lane on Sunday is worth $1,000 to the winner in each class.

More than $75,000 in prize money will be doled out over a 72-hour period.

An open practice will be held on Thursday, January 19, with gates opening at 5 p.m. and practice from 6 to 10. Pit passes are $20 and admission to the grandstands is free.
