Anticipation builds for 17th Annual S&S Fishing & Rental/Barnett Harley-Davidson USRA Fall Nationals


LAS CRUCES, N.M.—The 17th Annual S&S Fishing & Rental/Barnett Harley-Davidson USRA Fall Nationals presented by G3 Fitness and MSD is set to happen Friday-Sunday, Oct. 20-23, at the Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M.

Sunday’s finale will once again award at least $10,000 to the winner of the USRA Modified main event, and each of the 24 main event starters will earn at least $1,500.

Hometown favorite Stormy Scott is the two-time defending champion of the event. Other past winners include Terry Phillips (2012, 2013), Jason Cummins (2011), Rodney Sanders (2010), Johnny Scott (2009), Eddie Martin (2005, 2006, 2007), Ron Jones (2000, 2001, 2004), Monte Bolton (2003) and Royal Jones (2002).

Heat race passing points will be used to determine main event line-ups. The top five in Friday’s feature race advance to inside row of Sunday’s “A” Main, while the top five in Saturday’s nightcap will fill the outside five rows of Sunday’s “A” Main. An additional 14 drivers will advance from the “B” Main(s) to fill out the 24-car field.

Drivers not advancing out of the “B” Main to the "A" Main get $800 and competitors that fail to transfer from the “C” Main to the "B" Main will earn $500. Bonus money is also up for grabs for the top three leaders every lap in Sunday's main event.

The entry fee for USRA Modified competitors is $300, Out-Pace USRA B-Mods are $100 and Holley USRA Stock Cars are $50. Entry fees covers all three days of racing. Entry forms are available on the Southern New Mexico Speedway website at www.snmspeedway.com.

The event kicks off with an open practice for all classes on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 6-10 p.m. Admission to the grandstands is free. Pit passes are just $20.

On Friday and Saturday, USRA Modifieds will compete in qualifying heat and feature races to set the stage for Sunday's finale. Holley USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods will be battling for $500 to win each night. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. both nights. General admission is $10 Friday and $12 Saturday. A Family Pack is just $25 each day. Saturday's show will also feature a fireworks display following the races.

On Sunday, USRA Modifieds will compete in last-chance races as they look to lock themselves into the $10,000-to-win finale. Holley USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods will each be competing for a $1,000 top prize. Gates open at noon and racing begins at 2 p.m. General admission is $15 and a Family Pack is just $30.

Kids ages 10 and under get in for free each night with a paid adult. Pit passes are $40 each night or a three-day pit pass is just $110.

Transponders are required for all competitors, and will be available for rent if needed. The cost is $50 for USRA Modifieds or $25 for all other classes (coves all three days).

Note: Holley USRA Stock Cars with a 361-cubic-inch engine or larger must utilize a 6,200 RPM rev-limiting chip.

USRA Weekly Racing Series national points will be awarded all three nights.
